Where they were

Nine Kinds of Fencing, One Page to Explain Them

J & W Fence is a family-owned fence company in Battle Ground, WA. They build wood privacy fences, chain link, vinyl, wrought iron, field fencing, gates and temporary enclosures, plus commercial chain link topped with barbed wire or razor ribbon. Homeowners, businesses and people with acreage all call them.

Their website was one page on GoDaddy's builder. The top of it was the logo, blown up to fill half the screen. Below that sat a stock chain-link photo, a carousel of job photos and a contact form. There was no page for wood fencing, no page for gates and no page for any town they work in.

That matters, because people don't search for "fence company." They search for "cedar privacy fence" or "chain link fence Longview." With one page, J & W had nothing to show Google for any of those searches.

Before and after

The Old Site and the New One, Side by Side

Drag the handle to compare the GoDaddy homepage J & W had until September 23, 2026 with the site we launched that day. We kept their logo, their red and black, and their phone number.

What we built

A Page for Every Fence J & W Builds

We built the site the way a customer shops for a fence: by type first, then by style. Every style on the site is one J & W has actually built, shown in a photo from their own jobs.

Nine Service Pages

Each page shows the styles within that fence type and what each one is best for. The wood page, for example, compares capped privacy, dog-ear, horizontal board and wood-framed wire fences, each with a real J & W photo.

43 Project Photos, Sorted by Fence Type

The new Projects page gathers 43 photos from J & W jobs, filterable by wood, chain link, commercial, gates, temporary, field, ornamental metal and vinyl. A customer who wants black chain link or an arched metal gate can see exactly what J & W has built before they call.

A Page for Each Town They Serve

J & W works across Clark and Cowlitz counties, so each of the nine towns below has its own page, tied together by a service areas hub:

Quote Requests That Say What the Job Is

The quote form asks which fencing the customer needs, so J & W knows before calling back whether it's a backyard privacy fence or a commercial perimeter. Every request lands in our lead dashboard with the page and search that brought it in, behind a Cloudflare Turnstile check that keeps spam out.

Nothing Broke in the Move

We crawled the old site before launch and redirected every address it had, including GoDaddy's old sitemap files, so links already pointing at jwfences.com still work.

The results

A Faster, Steadier Site on Every Phone

We ran Google's Lighthouse audit on the old GoDaddy homepage and the new one, both on a simulated phone, the day after launch. The old site was still being served from GoDaddy, so we could measure both sides the same way.

Measured, not claimed

The Old Homepage Against the New One

Lighthouse scores out of 100, plus what a phone has to download and how much the page jumps around while it loads.

Measure GoDaddy site New site Change Source
Performance 73 96 +23 Lighthouse
Accessibility 79 100 +21 Lighthouse
Best Practices 96 100 +4 Lighthouse
SEO 92 100 +8 Lighthouse

Layout shift 0.282 0 none Lighthouse

The new site's performance score is the median of three runs (96, 96 and 88). A layout shift of 0.282 is past the point Google rates as poor: buttons moved while people were trying to tap them. The new site doesn't move at all.

Lighthouse 12 mobile audits of jwfences.com, old GoDaddy site and new site, run 24 September 2026.

What's next

Local SEO Starts Now

The website was step one. J & W's local SEO program is starting now, right after launch. The nine service pages and nine town pages give that work something to rank, and every quote request is already tracked back to the page and search that brought it in.

How the site is built

How the site is built

J & W builds nine kinds of fencing across two counties. For years, one page had to explain all of it.

Now every fence type and every town has its own page, its own photos and a quote button.
