Online MBAs Ranked on Graduate Earnings and Tuition

Hundreds of schools sell an online MBA, and the accreditation behind them varies widely. We built BestOnlineMBAPrograms.org to start from AACSB's accredited list, keep the 327 schools that report an MBA students can finish fully online, and rank 286 of them on two published factors: what graduates earn and what the degree costs.

The Problem

An MBA Ranking With Nothing Estimated

AACSB publishes no federal identifier, so every school had to be matched to its IPEDS record: 265 matched exactly, and 62 were matched by hand, each with a recorded reason. Three schools AACSB lists with a fully online MBA were removed because their own pages say the program is hybrid or has been replaced. When the school's page and the directory disagree, the school's page wins.

Programs are scored by percentile on College Scorecard earnings for each school's business master's graduates (55%) and the whole-program tuition the school reports to AACSB (45%). A program missing either figure stays in the directory without a rank instead of getting an estimate. Graduation and admission rates are left out, and the methodology explains why.

Most readers want one of two lists: the schools whose graduates earn the most for what the degree costs, or the cheapest AACSB online MBA they can find. Both are built from the same 327 schools.

The main ranking scores 286 programs on two factors measured at the graduate level: what the school's business master's graduates earn a year out (55%) and whole-program tuition (45%). Illinois Institute of Technology leads at 92.7, with $15,000 in tuition and $124,206 in graduate earnings. A summary block sets out what the data shows, including that private online MBAs cost a median $42,735 against $27,033 at public schools while their graduates' median earnings differ by $2,508.

Every Priced Program, Cheapest First

The affordable list orders the 320 programs that report a price by whole-program tuition at the out-of-state rate, starting with Valdosta State University at $9,000. 73 come in under $20,000 and 148 under $30,000, and all of the cheapest 25 are at public universities. The page says plainly that it is a price list, not a quality ranking, and that AACSB tuition can trail a school's own site: Illinois reports $24,984 for its iMBA while its program page lists $27,288.
