Every Certified Nursing Home, Compared on Federal Data

Families often choose a nursing home within days, sometimes straight from a hospital stay. We built SeniorCare.help as an independent guide that puts CMS Care Compare data for all 14,690 Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing homes behind a ZIP code search, a side-by-side comparison, and state pages, alongside guides on types of care and how to pay for it. No facility pays to appear, and the site is not a care provider or referral service.

The Problem

Star Ratings Don't Tell a Family Enough

CMS publishes four star ratings for every certified home, plus staffing hours, staff turnover, inspection results, fines, and an abuse icon. The data is public but spread across Care Compare. The site reads two CMS files, Provider Information and MDS Quality Measures, and shows CMS's own figures on each home without adding scores, reviews, or claims CMS doesn't make.

Every finder filter reads one CMS field, and the methodology states each rule with its count: 7,915 homes with no fines or payment denials, 7,044 with antipsychotic use below the national median of 13%. It also explains a limit that trips readers up: CMS rates health inspections against other homes in the same state, so inspection stars compare homes within one state only.

The Research Tools

From a ZIP Code Search to the Dementia Question

Most families start with one of two questions: which homes are near us and how do they rate, or does Mom need memory care. The finder answers the first from CMS data, and the memory care guide answers the second from state rules.

Nursing Home Finder

The Nearest Certified Homes, Filtered on CMS's Own Measures

Readers enter a ZIP code or city, or use their location, and see the nearest of 14,690 Medicare- and Medicaid-certified homes with CMS's star ratings. Filters each read one CMS field: 5,766 homes hold 4 or 5 stars, 7,915 have no fines or payment denials in 3 years, and 7,044 give antipsychotics to fewer long-stay residents than the national median. The search runs on the reader's device and sends nothing.

Memory Care Guide

What Memory Care Is, State by State, and Who Pays

There is no national memory care license, so the guide explains the state rules instead: 23 states require a separate license, certificate or endorsement, and 32 states plus DC require a written disclosure of staffing, training and fees. A table compares rules in six states, a payer table shows what Medicare, Medicaid waivers, insurance and the VA do and don't cover, and a checklist gives the questions to ask on a visit.

Who Uses the Research

Sources, Resources, and Their Readers

Link earning starts with the person who would need the resource. The architecture makes that path explicit instead of publishing content first and hunting for a reason to promote it later.
