DUI Laws for All 50 States and DC, Cited to the Statute

After a DUI arrest, the clock that matters first is often the license hearing deadline, and in many states it runs out in a week or two. We built DUI.help to put each state's rules in one place with the official citation beside every fact: penalties, the hearing deadline, implied consent, hardship licenses, SR-22, ignition interlock and records. The site is an independent guide, not a law firm, and it says so on every page.

The Problem

Fifty Different DUI Laws and a Deadline Most People Miss

Every state writes its own DUI law, and nineteen of them don't even call it DUI. The terms run from DWI and OWI to OVUII in Hawaii. Most people also don't know that an arrest usually opens a separate license case with its own short deadline, apart from the criminal charge. The homepage leads with that deadline and a three-step checklist before anything else.

Each state has one research record that stores the value, the citation, the link to the official page and the date it was checked. State pages, the comparison table, the guides and the tools all read from those records, so a figure reads the same everywhere. When a state's own sources don't settle a fact, it is left off rather than estimated. Other DUI sites and law firm pages are never used as sources.

The Research Tools

The Deadline First, Then the State's Own Law

Right after an arrest, a reader needs one date: the last day to save their license. After that they need their state's full rules. The deadline calculator and the state index cover both, and each points back to the official source.

Deadline Calculator

The Last Day to Request a License Hearing, by State

Pick a state and enter the date of the arrest or suspension notice, and the calculator counts forward using that state's rule. It counts business days only where the statute says business or working days. The page notes that holidays can also matter and tells readers to request the hearing as early as they can and confirm the date on the official source linked in the result.

State Index

All 50 States and DC, With Each State's Own Term and Deadline

The state index lists every jurisdiction in one table with the name the state uses for the offense (DUI, DWI, OWI, OUI, OVI, DUII or Hawaii's OVUII) and the days a driver has to request a license hearing, from 6 in Hawaii to 90 in Illinois. Where a state's official pages don't give a single number of days, the cell is left blank and the page says why. Each row opens that state's page on penalties, implied consent, SR-22, interlock and records.

Who Uses the Research

Sources, Resources, and Their Readers

Link earning starts with the person who would need the resource. The architecture makes that path explicit instead of publishing content first and hunting for a reason to promote it later.

Primary Evidence Published Resource Who Uses It
State statutes, read on each legislature's code site Penalties, felony rules and lookback periods on every state page Drivers facing a first or repeat charge
State DMV, MVD, BMV and licensing agencies Hearing deadlines, hardship licenses, SR-22 or FR-44 and interlock rules Drivers trying to keep or restore a license
FMCSA (49 CFR 383.51) and NHTSA Commercial driver disqualification and blood alcohol guides CDL holders and readers checking BAC limits
