A Rehab Finder With No Paid Listings and No Call Center

People searching for rehab often land on sites that route their call to whichever program pays the most. We built Rehab.help around the federal directory instead. It lists all 11,833 substance use treatment facilities in SAMHSA's FindTreatment.gov data, sorts them by distance, and shows only what each facility reported. No facility pays to appear, and every phone number is the facility's own.

The Problem

Finding Treatment Without Getting Sold a Program

The rehab search results a family sees at 2 a.m. are crowded with ads and referral lines. The site quotes the FTC and New York's addiction agency on that problem directly. So the finder starts from SAMHSA's own records and adds nothing on top: no star ratings, no success claims, no sponsored placement. Results are ordered by straight-line distance and narrowed only by the filters the reader picks.

SAMHSA sometimes lists one facility several times, once per program. We merge listings that share a name, street address and ZIP code, which turns 12,956 records into 11,833 facilities without dropping a single service. The methodology page explains which SAMHSA field drives each filter, from Medicaid and sliding fees to buprenorphine and programs for veterans, and the finder runs on the reader's device so nothing they type is sent anywhere.

The Research Tools

Finding a Program, Then Checking It

A reader needs two things before calling anyone: the licensed programs near them that fit how they can pay, and a way to tell a real program from a sales line. The finder handles the first and the choosing guide the second.

Treatment Finder

The Nearest SAMHSA-Listed Programs, Filtered by What a Reader Can Pay

Readers enter a ZIP code or city, or use their location, and see the nearest of 11,833 facilities from SAMHSA's FindTreatment.gov, ordered by distance. Filters cover payment (Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, TRICARE, sliding fee, no charge), type of care from detox to outpatient, medication treatment, and who a program serves. 9,569 facilities accept Medicaid, 2,318 offer detox and 1,506 are certified methadone clinics. The search runs on the reader's device.

Choosing Treatment

A Checklist for Telling a Licensed Program From a Sales Line

The guide walks through checking a state license, looking for accreditation from The Joint Commission or CARF, SAMHSA's signs of quality treatment, and the questions to ask before committing. It also names the warning signs, like pressure to travel to a faraway program today or a call line that won't say who it works for, and cites the FTC's warnings about paid search ads posing as treatment centers.

Who Uses the Research

Sources, Resources, and Their Readers

Link earning starts with the person who would need the resource. The architecture makes that path explicit instead of publishing content first and hunting for a reason to promote it later.

What We Built

  • A ZIP code finder covering all 11,833 SAMHSA-listed substance use treatment facilities.
  • Filters for payment, type of care, medication treatment and who a program serves, each tied to a named SAMHSA field.
  • State pages for 54 states and territories, plus guides on care levels, cost, medication treatment and helping a loved one.
  • Three tools that run in the browser and collect nothing: the finder, a payment checker and a levels-of-care comparison.
