We built LifeCoachingCertification.net to show which credentials carry weight and what each one asks of a new coach. It compares the ICF, NBHWC, and CCE credentials, covers 16 coaching specializations, and answers the state-by-state question of whether a license is needed.
The Problem
No state licenses life coaching, and dozens of organizations sell "certified coach" credentials. The site starts there: certification is voluntary, and the credentials that matter come from three bodies. The ICF ladder runs from ACC to MCC with rising training and coaching-hour requirements, NBHWC covers health and wellness coaching, and CCE's BCC serves counselors who add coaching.
Because coaching sits next to licensed work, the site is explicit about scope. It explains where coaching ends and therapy, financial advising, or medical nutrition therapy begin, and when a coach should refer a client. Industry and income figures are attributed to the ICF 2025 Global Coaching Study, and credential costs come from each body's published fees.
